What is the Spring Festival?
The Spring Festival marks the beginning of the Chinese Lunar Calendar, with 2025’s Chinese New Year falling on January 29th. This ancient tradition has been celebrated for over 4,000 years and symbolizes:

How is Spring Festival Celebrated in China?
1. Cleaning and Decorating:
Before the festival, homes are thoroughly cleaned to sweep away bad luck from the past year. Red lanterns, couplets, and paper cuttings are used to decorate homes, symbolizing luck and happiness.
2. Reunion Dinner (年夜饭):
On New Year’s Eve, families gather for a lavish dinner featuring dishes like dumplings (symbolizing wealth), fish (for abundance), and glutinous rice cakes (for prosperity).
3. Red Envelopes (红包):
Elders give red envelopes filled with money to children and unmarried family members, wishing them health, success, and happiness.
4. Fireworks and Performances:
Firecrackers and fireworks light up the night sky, believed to scare away evil spirits and bring in good fortune. Lion dances and other cultural performances are also common during this period.
5. Visiting Relatives and Friends:
People visit loved ones to exchange blessings and gifts, fostering stronger family bonds and friendships.
